Practice Sessions

I recently had the opportunity to watch the daughter of some friends of ours, a 2-month-old baby. I really appreciated the chance to be exposed to what reality with an infant might be like, staying home all day and having Jacob gone at work. I know, of course, that getting to give the baby back at the end of the day is not reality, but it's closer than nothing! :) It was a precious time of actually getting to know an infant, rather than just hold a baby at church or other social gathering. Even at 2 months, they have distinct personalities, preferences and moods! :) I wonder what our daughter will be like?

I also am all the more grateful now for the prospect of getting to be a stay-at-home mom! While the baby did do a lot of sleeping, and so I was able to work from home on those couple of days that I babysat, I can see where doing this on a regular basis would add a lot of stress. Kudos to you moms that are juggling baby and job! I am blessed to be married to a man who is willing to take on the role of sole breadwinner while I stay home, and know that we are blessed to be able to live on one salary. While the future is always unknown and liable to change, I will treasure this time as long as I can. I will also try to remember this feeling of gratitude when the baby has been crying all day!

On a totally unrelated note, for all you who have been asking how the water consumption is coming... I've met my 80-ounces-a-day goal almost every day since my post about drinking water. Most days, I'm drinking around 90-95 ounces (and I'm STILL not sure it's enough... but it's better than I was doing). The past couple days have been hard to stay on track. It seems the longer I do this, the harder it gets, and I thought it would get easier. Maybe I'm still on the uphill side of the hump.

  1. They only sleep a lot in the first few months, unfortunately.. and some don't even sleep much then. I hope yours will give you a break now and then.
