Weekly Check Up

If I could start over, I would choose a fat midwife. Or at least one that didn't fall into the category of "I've been skinny my whole life and never tried."

My midwife is nice, and professional, but I secretly suspect I wouldn't get as much grief about my weight gain from someone who was little more... ample... around the waistline. ;)

I had my (now weekly) doctor's appointment last Friday, and all in all, baby and I got a clean bill of health. Except, obviously, she brought up the weight thing. I know I've gained too much, and that she only has my best interests in mind, but for heaven's sake... I lost almost 50 lbs before getting pregnant... doesn't that count for something? :) I guess my midwife would not have been too pleased that I went home and made creme brulee for dessert that night. I did take the fat off my pork ribs before eating them for dinner, though... do you suppose that would fit her request that I eat a "balanced" diet? Hmmmm...

Okay, enough about the weight thing. Really, I'm not bitter. Or rebellious.

I had creme brulee for breakfast the next morning, too. So there.

On a more fun note, my midwife did an unexpected ultrasound on me to make sure the baby was head down (she is). The ultrasound wasn't thorough enough to double-check the gender, so we're still going with the verdict of "girl" from my ultrasound at 19 weeks. At each of my previous appointments, I've brought a family member along to share the experience, but this time that didn't happen. I was a little sad that no one else got to see the ultrasound (especially because my sister has been dying to see one), but it was still cool to get to see the baby again. I saw her move her hand, and saw her making little breathing movements, in addition to seeing her heartbeat.

All in all, not a bad doctor's appointment. We'll see what the midwife has to say at this Friday's check up. Maybe I'll blame the weight gain on swelling, and not mention the creme brulee. ;)
