Ready to be done?

Had another doctor's appointment today. These weekly appointments sure come around quickly. For them that care... I'm at about 2.5 cm, 75% effaced and Patrick is at a -2 station. My midwife also thinks Patrick has dropped just a little, based on her measurements. This is about exactly how things progressed with Lucy's birth (maybe just a tad further along this time), so I don't think anything's imminent yet. My midwife said she thinks it will be at least a few more days.

People keep asking me, "Are you SO ready to be done?" The answer is no, not really. Last pregnancy, I was extremely anxious to go into labor, as evidenced by the plethora of blog posts I wrote on the topic at the time. This time, though... not so much.

You see...

A) I remember labor. At least parts of it. The parts I don't remember I have blocked out because they were traumatic. I have had some contractions on and off over the past week (more than just braxton-hicks), and they have helped me really remember labor. Anxious to jump into this experience again? Uh, no. Willing, yes. I know it's kind of an essential part of the baby-birthing thing. But definitely not impatient to start. :)

B) I acknowledge, pregnancy is uncomfortable. Heartburn, hips aching, trouble walking, can't sleep, bladder the size of a grape... BUT, I now know from experience that late pregnancy is easier than newborn baby. When I get up at night, I go right back to bed, instead of staying up for an hour or more nursing. While I have a child to take care of, she has a predictable nap time and bed time, and and is lightyears ahead of a newborn in being self sufficient.

C) I'm really enjoying this last little bit of time with just Lucy, getting to spend time with her one on one. I'm realizing every day how precious the time with her is, and I'm not in a hurry to leave that behind. I know I'll have opportunities in the future with her, but dynamics will change with a second child around, and I want to savor the uniqueness of this time in our lives.

The good news is, this weekend was very productive, and so "having to much left to do" is NOT on my list! :) I'm packed for the hospital, Lucy is packed for wherever she ends up (complete with 2-page instruction sheet... who's overly detailed?), bills are paid through mid-September, the cameras are charged and have empty memory cards... So when the time comes, at least I won't be panicking because of undone tasks. :)

Speaking of "the time," we'll probably update the blog more than facebook while I'm in labor, since not everyone (gasp!) is on facebook. :) Also, the blog at least keeps things in the order they are posted... the fact that facebook sorts by popularity of a post instead of time is a pet peeve of mine. -shakes head-
