Personality

Dearest Lucy,

You, my child, are starting to develop opinions and preferences about how your little life is run. You inherited this from me. Your mother has no shortage of opinions about life. ;)

For example, you smile most when laid flat on your back. You dislike being left alone in a room, but are often content if there are people around, even if they are not interacting with you. There are times, however, when you distinctly "request" attention. But who can resist when you give such a winning smile as soon as someone says hello to you?

There are three things in life right now that you hate. Ranking third on this list is getting out of the bath. Bath time is just fine, and you are adorable as you discover how much fun it is to splash in the water. But leaving that nice warm water? No thank you. Even if Mommy is very thoughtful and has a warm, fuzzy towel all prepared for you, and you're in the cold air for maybe 1.7 seconds. This is unacceptable in your little world, and you are not shy about expressing this.

Second on the list, and even more objectionable to you, is the dreaded bottle. You simply cannot comprehend WHY your food source has inexplicably morphed into a tasteless, rubbery, hard to figure out contraption. And you protest this vehemently. And persistently. Persistence you get from your father. On Monday, we spent FORTY-FIVE minutes trying to get the bottle to take, and you "drank" all of one ounce. One. And that was more from inadvertently gumming the nipple as you cried. -sigh- However, I do have to add on that this morning, after putting up with some predictable crying, Nana actually got you to drink FOUR ounces from a bottle while I was at work. I was floored. And ecstatic. Let's keep this up, eh?

Your number one complaint in life right now (drumroll, please).... is getting clothes put on over your head. Yup. This is your big nemesis. My little drama queen. No matter how big the neck on the onesie, how gently or quickly I put it on, you can go from smiles to screams in the blink of eye. Well, actually, there's a transition in there... first your little mouth opens as wide as possible, with your eyes scrunched as tight as they'll go, and you shake your head with the maddest expression on your face, so upset that no sound can make it's way out of your furious little body. And then you shriek.

But, all that said, you have many more pleasant moments than unpleasant. And you're still little enough to be awfully cute even when you're mad. ;)

On the other side of things, the best part about your developing personality is how much you love to smile. Every day, I just get tickled pink when you look up at me, and start giving me that smile that builds until you can't contain your excitement. You not only smile with your mouth, you eyes wrinkle up and almost twinkle, and you curl up your whole body in glee, wiggling with delight. Oh, dear daughter, how I love every day with you. You make me melt.

  2. What a precious post. Little Lucy sounds like such a delight. (BTW, I've had the bottle issues too...and often they are more likely to take the bottle from someone they don't associate with being "the kitchen" for them...if you catch my drift.)
